For people who have replaced the struts on their RX, did you use Lexus or Aftermarket?

For those who went Aftermarket, what brand? Were you happy with them?

I am haven't priced Lexus struts yet, but I want to change them out before the 25th for a trip, so aftermarket might be only way to go.

I am leaning towards KYB's as Gabriel and Monroe generally make poor quality stuff for GM cars/trucks. I haven't had KYB before. Gotta be better. I don't think Bilstein makes struts for the RX.

when my air suspension died, i replaced all with KYB. its been 8 months, i am happy with them. no issues

Lexus uses KYB as OEM Shocks.

Just ordered a pair of KYB's. Will put them on Tuesday night or Wed. Hopefully not too hard, my Lexus Tech friend says pretty easy.

My experience with Monroes and Gabriel shocks is they are good for about 1-2k miles then get excessively soft and ride like a Buick. I put Monroe's in the rear of my Buick and they were BLOWN (leaking oil, both sides) within 12 months.

Unless they have higher standards for Lexus replacement parts?

Just remember to order all the fittings, boots etc. for the KYB's. The OEM hardware doesn't fit them. I installed KYB's and the OEM hardware "looked" quite a bit different. I didn't even try to see if there was any way.

I strongly recommend the Harbor Freight strut spring compressor. It's bulky but really strong and easy to use. Be sure, however, to read the reviews and add several greased washers to the single washer that comes with the compressor. It makes your work a lot easier and the single washer will bend and fail quickly. I've used mine on thee cars and really trust this compressor with my life. Literally. It can be had for under $50 with a coupon.
