thegrouse, for a cat to go bad a 98000 miles, there may either be some kind of fueling or oil burning issue with the engine or the cat took a major impact an broke apart. If there was an engine problem, it's possible you would have seen some kind of smoking before the cat heated up. Of course, it could be just a bad part. Hope the replacement does well for you.

Hey Grouse,
Thanks for the instructions and part numbers. My wife's '04 RX330 AWD is throwing both the 430 and 420 codes indicating both front and rear banks are bad. Her car has 180k miles on it. Are you seeing better fuel mileage after the cat replacement?

I have not run a full tank of fuel through the vehicle yet. It is my second vehicle and doesnt get driven too much. I will check next time I go through a tank but it will probably be a bit.
