weight capacity of new RX330
Does anybody know if Lexus beefed up the weight capacity of the new RX? Hope it will carry more then the current model @ appx 865. Check ed out capacity of Marano yesterday, only 860 lbs. I have some pretty hefty friends but can only carry three of them or chance going into overload (we all weight about the 225 to 235 range). I don't want to hear any cracks about going on diet" either please.

About two years ago, my wife and I added alot of landscaping bricks to our yard. We hauled about 30 bricks in the back on each of about 4 loads. Each brick weighed 11 lbs. That is 3300 lbs in the back. Believe it or not, drove real slow. About a 5 mile ride. We made it. Car is not any worse for the wear.
Yeah, real stupid. Did I say STUPID!
But can you believe it!

Accord to the preliminary 2004 RX 330 specifications available at:
http://pressroom.toyota.com/photo_li...d=2004rx330_so
The GVWR (maximum weight for RX completely loaded) is 5,245 lbs
for both the 4x4 and 4x2. Subtract each vehicle's curb weight to get
their load capacity.
4x4 = 1180 lbs
4x2 = 1385 lbs
So assuming an average weight of 230 lbs for you and your friends,
you could carry you and three passengers along with 260 lbs of cargo
(or another friend) in the 4x4 or 465 lbs in the 4x2.
Hmm, five 230 lbs passenger capacity... Toyota must really have taken
the idea to design the RX for the American market to heart.

I use the GVWR - curb weight method because most car manufacturers don't provide load capacities in their specs. I imagine the body sticker is on the conservative side. Compare that figure to Larry99's (unsafe!) carry load. Still, 1180 lbs is 154 lbs more than 1026 lbs. Either way more load capacity in the RX 330.

I expect he mistyped and meant 300 bricks rather than 30. That would give the 3300 pounds he said.
(BTW, I found this thread because i needed to know the rated load for hauling bags of landscape river rock. I'm going to need to make 4 trips to stay under the rated load.)
