Default The winter is coming!

This will be my first winter with my 2005 RX330 and I am trying to decide what to do about tires for this coming winter. Last year, we had more snow than ever and I can't decide to go with winter tires or stick to all seasons. Can anyone give me some feedback from their experiences?
Thanks so much...

I used all purpose tires for the past couple of winter seasons and it works great in New England area (Boston). We had 6-12 inches of snow last time. By the way mine is a 08 RX350 AWD.

I have found my '07 to be a beast in the snow on well-worn all seasons.

Why rely on anecdotal evidence?

Also, I have compiled a lot of information regarding winter tires at the top of the tires, wheels and brakes forum.

Interesting AJ. I noted your higher silica content comment in winter tires. What is your take on the new Michelin Premiers? I have read that they have been designed with the highest possible silica content, and also newer, wider grooves/sipes that appear as the tire wears. I realize that this tire was created with improved wet driving conditions in mind, but considering that a lot of snow is water I wonder about the snow performance.

The new Premier is very good in the wet. It hasn't been out long enough to get information on winter performance, however.

The one thing you noted is the wet weather traction. In the winter, the wet turns to slush and ice, and in that case, a winter studless ice and snow tire will be far superior.

Clearly a winter tire will be superior in snowy and icy conditions. I was just wondering if how much the Premier will be a superior winter tire to other all-season tires...

At this point, its a little hard to judge. I expect it to be good.

Cool, thanks. I will report back on this. I just had them put on less than three weeks ago and drive 100 miles a day, so I will get a lot of experience with them this winter.

Excellent!

Please post feedback on our website under the survey info. You can find it here

That survey info is closely monitored by the tire manufactures and other buyers and greatly value the feedback.

We run Michelin xice xi2 on our 2007 RX400H and the difference in winter is amazing. Much more grip at the low temps, very good on ice, and works fine at 75mph. Noise is a little more, but not much more.

My favorite all season for the RX is the Michelin Latitude Tour. It is more of a truck tire than a car one. Even so, it is not noisy or bad on MPGs. It also lasts much longer than the Energy. Expect 30k miles from an Energy vs. 50k miles from a Latitude Tour. They also don't wear on the edge or cup as easily as the Energy.
