Default Windows opened themselves!?

Our car is kept in a carport. When my wife went out to the car this morning, to go to church, she found the doors unlocked, all the windows down, and the sunroof open. The slide-open cover was opened, too.

We used the car yesterday evening, didn't open the windows when we used it (too hot), and locked it up tight when we came home. Those windows won't manually open unless you have the ignition key, so if someone was playing a prank, they'd need the key. .

Is there any way that the computer can malfunction to have caused this strange condition? (That would not explain the top cover being open, however.)

Strange. If a prankster, I don't know how or why s/he did what s/he did.

Exclamation Possible Radio Interference

So my wife's 2010 RX has the ability to roll down all the windows and open the sunroof if you hold down the unlock button on the remote. I don't use that feature much, but it's there if I want it. My new CT also has that feature but it had to be programmed by the dealer through LPS at my 5K mile service. When I requested the dealer activate this feature, the SA asked if I was sure that's what I wanted. He explained that he has had customers have the feature disabled because they found their car in the airport long term parking lot with the windows down and sunroof open. Worst case scenario was the car that sit in pouring rain for a couple days. The SA explained that they speculate some errant radio signal near the airport triggered the feature as if the unlock button was held down on the remote. Something to think about.

When I held down the key, it happened just as described.

Thanks, folks... you explained what would have otherwise remained a mystery.

(I didn't find that feature in the Owner's Manual when I've spent some time going through it, but it's probably there, somewhere.)

It DOES explain the top cover being open, too -- as the glass panel opens it when it pulls back into the roof. I didn't realize that happened.

Awesome feature, just wish you could close up the vehicle with the remote.

In the states, cars aren't allowed to roll up via the remote. You can make them roll up though. I added a PAC TR7 module to make the car think that I am holding the key in the lock cylinder. Now I just press lock twice in 3 seconds and it rolls up the windows.

Jake - how do you specifically set that PAC TR7 up to do that?

Connect both the white and orange wire on the module to the lock wire on the door lock cylinder. Connect the green wire on the module to the positive wire for the lock motor. Connect red to positive constant. Black to ground. Program the module for feature #10, set the white wire to pulse and the orange wire to be a timer. Set the timer for 15 seconds. Voila!

Is this also just a PAC TR7 universal Trigger Module?

The doors still shouldn't have been unlocked as they will lock again after 30 seconds if no door is opened.

Draco- Yes...Just a Pac Tr7 module. You won't even need relays. All the wiring can be done in the drivers door. No pictures though. I would take one but I really don't like taking the panels off unless I have to.

JGR7- As far as the 30 seconds for the re-lock...you are right. But that feature could have been turned off.

Beefmc- You're welcome. :-)

I suspect, now that you mention it, that they weren't unlocked. I'd be willing to bet that she unlocked the driver's door as she walked to the car, and once she got there noticed that everything was open... and forgot that she had opened the door. (The other doors may NOT have been unlocked.) I know that I press the unlock button as I leave the porch, which is part of the carport -- and would bet she did the same.
