Default 60k service

Hi Experts,

My 2006 RX is due for it's 60k service. Would you recommend I go to the dealer for it? All my services till ate have been at the dealer, so am leaning towards that . . . .
Should I go when it hits the 60k or can I wait till 61-62k if im sure the car is giving no other trouble?

How much is this kind of service expected to set you back by?

Thanks,
/ Hj

First, you should look in your Owner's Manual or at the following URL online to see what all is required at 60K miles, or how many months that is by now as it is by mileage or time.

https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...ce-schedule.do

Also, you do not say if your vehicle is FWD or AWD. Makes a difference on which fluids need attention at this point.

For the most part this service is an oil change, a tire rotation, a brake flush, filter changes for the AC and engine, and a bunch of checks. Due to the amount of time which has passed, you might consider tending to other fluids such as the power steering fluid (which is really ATF -- see Owner's Manual), a drain and fill of the transmission fluid, gear oil if AWD, and the coolant.

If you are trying to save money but still want someone to do this for you I might recommend you find a local Toyota dealership nearby with a good reputation for you to work with. They will have everything you need. Just check in advance that they work on Lexus as some Toyota shops affiliated with a sister Lexus dealership will not. Rare, but it does happen.

As for when, stick with 60K. It allows you to easily remember when it was done and when the next services are needed. No reason to put any of this off into the future, though it is doubtful any harm will be done if you wait. Performing these services now will keep your ride happy for many more miles with luck.
