Default Tackling Mt. Everest: Timing Belt/Water Pump change (***DIY w/ pics***)

First, big props to other members for their input on this - HTOWNBLUE, gscott2, luvrxxx, thomas1 and I'm sure others. Their threads were helpful as well as the RX300 TB videos on youtube. Also, feel free to use this thread as a catch-all for TB and water pump related questions.

Below is my experience in doing this. I would rate it on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being most difficult probably a 9. It is not for the faint of heart – you can really mess things up but I hope my instructions alleviate that concern. I had no issues throughout the entire install.

I would allow for two days to do this. Similar to my spark plug write-up, first day tear down and install new belt, then second day install water pump then put everything back. I will skip a lot of basic details of removing things unless a specific method is necessary or I found a shortcut. This is probably one of the biggest maintenance-related jobs on these cars. It is recommended to do at 90k miles. I did ours at 120k and the belt still looked new (see pics). Could have easily gone to 150k miles.

Disclaimer: Attempt at your own risk. This is the method that I found most useful and efficient – yours may differ and may not be the exact as described herein. As with any do-it-yourself project, unfamiliarity with the tools and process can be dangerous. This project should be construed as theoretical advice.***I will not be held responsible for any injury or engine failure due to the misuse or misunderstanding of this DIY project****.

****Due to sheer file size and numbers of pics, the DIY is located in the attachment below*****

Please let me know if there is a better way to upload. File is a 61-page PDF (35-36mb).

Great posting, makes me glad I bought a 2007 model with the timing chain. The only thing I would change is removing the wristwatch when doing this work.

No problem. Are you going to tackle this now that you've done your plugs?

Yes. In 2007, the 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 went to a timing chain. My 07 GS350 has a chain as well.

You're in the clear. You'll sell the car before it needs another chain.

Just make sure to keep the cooling system in good shape. Changing the water pump is mucho expensive on the 350s.

Youre absolutely correct. My GS350 water pump started leaking at 90k.

My water pump on the 2007RX had a leak at 60K. It was replaced at no charge by Lexus under the power train warranty.

Glad it was taken care of. I was out of warranty but fortunately on the GS, it's not that bad to do:
