2007 RX 250 - Switchblade replacement Key
I only have one key to my Lexus rx 350 and needed to buy a spare. I was thinking of picking up one of the switch blade type keys you see on ebay. Has anyone tried one of these?
If I want to add a key, as opposed as just upgrading my existing key, what do I need to buy? Does anyone know of a good ebay seller that sells quality keys?
My dealership said they charge 30 dollars to cut a key, and 55 dollars to program it by hooking it up to their computer.
Just wanted to see if the square keys are good quality, and if anyone has had any issues.
I read a post somewhere on here that said you could damage your ignition by using one of these third party / non-oem keys... Just curious if that is really the case.
Thanks!

You still need the internal electronics. None of the switchblade keys I have seen come with this and is worthless without.
The old discussions have covered all this and more.

I bought the switchblade keys off ebay. Nice idea and worked well for a couple of months, however the key snapped off in the lock, on both of them. Luckily I was able to to get access to a pair of needle nose pliers to get it out and shut the car off. I wouldn't recommend them.
