Hello all, I have a 2005 rx330 with 59,990 miles and an extremely clean service record. So clean that the 60k maintenance was completed at 55k and no history or current check engine lights. I dropped my car off for the 65k maintenance (since the service record is 5k miles ahead) at a local lexus trusted dealer. This was only for an oil change and rotation if memory serves me correctly and when I picked up the car no issues or problems were noted on the service details and courtesy checks, all green! I turned the car on while in the dealer lot to leave and the check engine light and vsc light were on. I turned the car off immediately and went inside to voice my complaint and left my car there for them to investigate what the issue was. I was told that it was the oxygen sensor that was causing this issue...I did not get details on which oxygen sensor but i voiced my concern that there was never a CEL on the car before, and he noted something about it being history code I did not understand (something along the line of it being triggered within the recent history of 25 trips?).

I will be picking the car up later today and still uneasy that they might have bumped or knocked an oxygen sensor during the oil change which caused this instead of the 1 in a million chance the CEL first activated when i turned it on after a service. Can anyone confirm if one of the o2 sensor could be bumped or damaged during an oil change and result in a CEL?

I wouldn't think so, I have changed oil on these engines since 1998 and never experienced that. Could be just the nature of the beast and a little bad luck. Hopefully dealer is honest and didn't create it.

It is possible to bump or damage the sensor while doing an oil change as I recall the bank 2 sensor 2 is right by the oil pan, but I personally think this occurring is rare unless the mechanic was a complete idiot.

But since your car is an '05, I would think to consider age of the sensor as a factor here if it's never been changed.

I've had 3 02 sensors go out on me over the years, one after a timing belt service (like pulling out of the shop) one the day after an inspection, and the next a week after replacing a $700 starter, oil coincidences, and I assume this is the same.
