Interesting, I was reading an article this morning re; a Rav 4 owner. (Think it was an 05) He was tired of the way it was shifting, so he went to Wal-Mart and bought several quarts of Dex.VI. (Super tech Brand) He claims it shifts much better/smoother now. And supposedly cleared up the 1st to 2nd gear shift bump. This has me thinking. I did try Valvoline Maxlife in this trans once, but didnt like the way it down shifted on it. And the fluid seemed thicker compared to the IV fluid. This person claims the Dex VI is thinner than the T-IV fluid. Might just try it out . Some of the Toyota trannies called for Dex III in the past so wondering how much harm it could do. It even states on the back label of the Super Tech fluid..."compatible with Toyota type-IV fluid."

Eeeeeh.....probably not Plus I have half a case or two more changes of the Mobil 3309 I got off of Amazon to use up yet.

Weird... this is what it says on the bottle:

Suitable for use where DEXRON II, DEXRON III, JASO M315 (1A), Toyota WS and Toyota T-IV fluids are recommended

Super Tech is not a brand I would feel comfortable being used in my vehicles. Believe they are the only DEXRON VI making the claim of Type IV compatibility let along WS compatibility. Thought I had seen previous that Toyota/Lexus had stated not to use WS to replace where Type IV is used.

If a change is desired, why not to a synthetic Type IV?

I used Amsoil in this trans when I first got it, and it shifted real hard when it was cold. Then I tried the Valvoline Maxlife and didnt like that. I dont think Mobil-1 Synthetic trans fluid is compatible with t-IV anymore (I may be wrong on that one though) So I`v just been sticking to the Toyota and mobil 3309 ever since.

I would stick with OEM toyota IV unless you have extra money to replace the transmission down the road.....

TIV Toyota tranny fluid can be had for about the same price as the alternates. Stick to TIV. Proven.

Your right, I`v all ready decided not to use anything else but Toyota stuff.
