Hello,

So I just recently bought an amazing pre-owned Lexus RX 330. While driving it the other day, I noticed that there is a **** on the steering wheel that enables you to shift its position (telescoping). I played with it while the car was in motion, however in the owner's manual it says not to do so. Is this just a safety concern because it may be distracting, or could I have potetially damaged my vehicle? I know I probably sound paranoid but I really love my car and wouldn't want to ever harm it. Thanks!!

No harm, no foul. You just do not want to be doing that and the have a need for the airbags to go off.

FWIW, you can adjust for multiple drivers and then save those settings using the memory buttons on the driver side door. All that is in your Owner's Manual.

Nope! Not a problem to do this, just not wise to fiddle with adjustments while you drive.

can totally imagine the scenario....on the highway for a long drive....bored.....looking around.....see a button under the steering wheel....bend down to look at it, "wow, Whats this..." you can imagine the rest.

playing with it while car in motion does no damage as the whole steering column is no long one long rod....but whether it is wise or not.....

Here's my wife's explanation. "I just bent down to pick up my lipstick, i don't know where that truck came from"

I just purchased a 2008 Rx 350 this week. It is in magnificent condition, has all of the service papers and was given a very positive bill of health from the Lexus dealer we purchased it from. My question is how many miles can I hope to get on this engine if serviced well. It has 82,000 now so what is the general opinion of the forum friends?

You will probably only get around 100,000 miles out of it before it needs a rebuild.

There are many variables for there yo be an accurate answer to this question. As longs as you look after it and service it regularly it will serve you well for many miles. I am new to Lexus but not new to high mileages my last two cars covered in xs of 190,000 miles each before trading up.

Would put longevity down to driving style ie try not to strain the engine by over reving or under reving both are as damaging.

Always use good quality oil to makers specification. I also use a product called ZX1 which is an anti friction product that coats the metal surfaces with an ani wear anti friction substance you just add it to your oil every 30,000 miles or so.There are fans and disbelivers. All I would say that in 12 years and 400,000 miles I have not had an engine let me down using thiese simple factors.

Not to overstate the obvious but if your unit requires a cambelt change do not delay bite the bullit and get it down.
