Default Opinion Sought: Installing iPhone Adapter

Hi there!

I'm finally installing an iPhone Adapter in my 2005 RX300 tomorrow. My question is this: do I need better speakers now that I will be playing music from the iPhone or will I hear an improvement without new speakers? I do not have the Levinson system. I have the stock system that came with the basic model and I have Nav.

Thoughts?

I have ML system so i cannot be of a help here, but if the source is a phone playing .mp3 files (compressed more or less) vs. CD player that plays .wav files - uncompressed - you should not expect better sound quality, just by replacing the source. There are iOS music files that are in lossless format (ALAC), where the sound quality should be the same.

Better speakers do not necessarily mean there will be better music coming out of them. As rudyasp pointed out, one issue is the source of your music. If it is compressed in any lossy format, such as MP3, you lose quality.

Play a stock store purchased CD of your favorite music, not a compilation you have put together and burned, in your RX and listen to the quality. That is about as good as it gets. Anything else, especially anything downloaded from the Apple store, will be of lower quality.

Personally, the only reason I would see to replace any of the stock speakers in an RX would be if they were damaged some how. If you are looking for upgrades on your system, speakers or head end unit, take some time to search the forums here at Club Lexus. There are plenty of individuals who have replaced their systems, such as Carver. Not many who have replaced actual speakers due to size, selection and ability to get to the speakers in question. Lots of mod information available, you just have to search for it. Such as:

Good point. People purchase loads of music in lossy formats from Amazon or Apple and then wonder why it sounds like garbage on their high end systems. Or better yet, they make those same purchases never realizing they are not getting the quality they deserve. Would be like purchasing a Blu-ray movie and getting VHS quality. Something I discussed previously here at CL:
