Default cheapest fix for evaporator?

Hi, new member

we have a now out of warranty 08 rx. It seems to me the white dust problem has taken this car. I didnt drive it b4 as some1 else in the family did, but I just realized it now. No warranty.

we all know the problem is

question is what is the cheapest way to fix this?

is this part available any way online that I can purchase and take to a mechanic?
has any1 had success with getting Lexus to cover this under grace assistance (no is my guess)

Just looking for the best option to fix this....the $1600 price Ive seen in other threads is not gonna cut it for me

Welcome to Club Lexus. There are several forum postings on this. Search this forum using keywords "white dust". The procedure is very labor intensive and expensive. Lexus has issued a Technical Service Bulletin on this (see attachment).

thanks for the reply, I have searched on this issue

the TSB is interesting, but since its not a recall, out of warranty cars are SOL

I know the procedure is expensive, Ive seen like about 1600 when I searched, thats why im posting to see what my cost effective option is...I just cant afford 1600 right now

is this part available that I could buy and take to a mechanic?

There are a number of owners who have been successful in getting Lexus to repair known defects OUT of warranty. Have you approached your local Lexus dealership about this? It wouldn't hurt to have the TSB info with you. Other's have also been successful when the dealership refused, by calling Lexus Corporate directly and politely asking for help in resolving the issue. Lexus knows this is a problem they just might work with you to resolve this.

lexus corporate wont look consider anything until you bring them a diagnostic from a lexus dealer...diagnostic usually average $100....considering how expensive this repair is, Im averse to spending more $ on it

As I understand it, the dust is an anti-microbial coating that was poorly applied. The dust will eventually cease as the coating goes away. My car hasn't done this but for 1600 I might be inclined to use a damp cloth until the snow storm stops, YMMV.

i dont mind the dust on the dashboard

Im worried about breathing in this stuff, and for some reason I dont trust toyota when they say its safe considering their recent track record
