Alignment with winter rims or with factory rims?
Dealer is replacing right lower ball joint and a steering shaft (related to a thread on hard steering). Advisor recommended wheel alignment.
However, I've the winter rim and tire installed right now. Should I go ahead with that or wait until I install the factory rims by end of March?
TIA.

the ball joint change will not affect alignment, but the steering shaft "could". with that said, if it could affect the alignment, then the book time will include a TOE set. so an alignment shouldnt be an upsell. and the only reason to do an alignment with that part will be beacuse the mechanic let the steering wheel go crooked (which is avoidable) if you dont have a problem now, then i wouldnt bother. check your tires for unusual wear.
but they also try to sell you an alignment yearly. kind of a catch 22.
assuming your winter rims are the same specs as the OEM, then you should/will be fine to do the alignment now. otherwise wait.

If the dealer is replacing a tie rod end, or the tie rod itself, then an alignment is usally recommended as the getting the threads EXACTLY the same as the original part after reinstallatoin is difficult.
I would NOT pay for an alignment at the dealer. You can get a good alignement by a professional laser machine for about 100 bucks or so. Dealer will charge 200 I bet.
The wheels won't make a difference as the alignemnt process is not effected by wheels as the equipment will attach to the wheel regardless and will align the car no matter what wheel is on the vehicle (unless its a bent rim)
