Default Tweeter (A Pillar Speaker)

My speaker / tweeter that sits in the A pillar on the driver's side has started to crackle on some songs and I fear it will get worse. I suspect the tweeter is on borrowed time? Has anyone replaced this speaker with non-genuine parts? I have an ML audio system, so I know el-cheapo's aren't going to work very well as a replacement. I also don't want to spend an exorbitant amount on 2 little speakers.

What have others here used to replace factory OEM speakers in the A Pillar? I do not want to do add-ons, redo the audio system etc. etc. I am just after what I need to replace them and good quality replacements without the cost.

I do not have ML on my RX330, but have an SC430. In the SC430, it was far easier to replace busted tweeters with ML direct replacements. Performace wise it was OK and direct fit was the plus. I believe same logic applies for your RX, so we hope.

On my SC430, I replaced he door speakers (mid-range) with aftermarket simply because of the price. Granting I had to use an adapter. ML uses non traditional speaker sizes at least for the SC430.

ML components are steep, nothing much you can do about it...Sewell Lexus will give us a discount (CL members), best bet.

FWIW, The speaker is a 2 centimeter, 8 ohm tweeter.

So besides the name, what difference is there between a good set that I can buy from an auto store vs the Lexus ML speakers?

Also how does one get to these speakers to replace them?

When the woofers (front door speakers) failed on my ML stereo I replaced then with some speakers from Parts Express. They were about $50 each and appeared to be of much higher quality than the ML speakers. The MlL speakers were junk in my opinion.

The hard thing is finding a speaker that will fit.

Is it 2cm exact, or is it an inch (i.e. 2.54cm)?

Also does anyone have an installation guide that shows how to remove the old one and fit the new one. Wondering if I am going to have to remove my a-pillar but if I did, that's where the airbag is (so that's a concern).

I got those numbers from the Lexus 2004 New Caar Features Manual Rx330
For the squawkers in the dash they list the size at 6.5 cm, so I am guessing they are close to 2 cm.
I have not measured the speakers myself.

With the woofers I replaced, the primary issue was finding a speaker that was less than 3 inches deep.

The other option is repair the speaker. With the woofers the common failure mode is the cone tearing around the edge. I do not know if the tweeters have the same issue. I repaired one of my woofers with RTV and it sounded fine before I replaced it with the aftermarket speakers.

Hi! Which speaker did you get to replace the woofers?

I used these:

http://www.parts-express.com/vifa-p1...oofer--297-305

Unfortunately Parts Express no longer carries them.

Repairing the speakers with RTV works well and is cheap.
