Default Mileage on your RX

How many miles is everyone getting before any repairs are needed? Someone at a dealership told me they can go 300,000 and still run strong with no issues, which is hard to believe but I guess if they’re taken care of, it’s possible. Some of the ones I’m looking st have 150,00 and over, wondering if the deals are good on the asking price or not. It’s my first purchase. Thanks for any help you can give.

these bad boys are practically bulletproof and will keep going and going and going like the energizer bunny as long as you continue to to proper maintenance etc. Ive heard of some people having well over 300,000 on theirs and they are still going strong!. Just another example here for ya since lexus is toyota:a friend of my sister's husband had a 86 toyota tacoma pickup and by the time he sold it; it had 500,000!!! yes! 500,000 miles on it and it was still going strong! original drivetrain and original engine!. So; yes these rx's are extremely reliable as long as you do proper maintenance like any other vehicle when it needs to be done. I currently have a 07 rx that I picked up a little over a year ago and have put 20,000 plus miles on since that that time and havent had a lick of trouble.

On my '05 RX330 I have about 83K miles on it. Did the timing belt right when I got it used which it only had 71K on the dash. But for the 330's as long as you keep up with the timing belt and regular maintenance these engines are practically bulletproof. Interval is approximately 100K miles or 10 years which ever comes first as I recall but should be done earlier if the funds allow. Same with the 350's although that uses a longer lasting chain instead of belt.

I've put 300K on a '99 Camry (timing belt) and my '07 Camry (timing chain) is very close to hitting 200K so Toyota/Lexus can go far with just basic maintenance.

Keep up with oil changes using good oil and you should have no issues for a long time. I'm on the original chain for my Camry and it'll go until 300K.

Just turned 225,500 miles on our 2004 RX330. Overall, has been a really great vehicle.

Wow that’s good to hear. I was worried about the mileage due to other cars I’ve owned having major issues after so long. Thanks for your help! I appreciate it!

If you don’t mind me asking, what does it cost to have the belt replaced? And do you have to go to a Lexus garage or can you go anywhere?

Not sure about others, but I use an independent that specializes in Lexus and the cost to replace the timing belt with water pump, tensioner, serpentine belt, etc. is about $550-$600 or so. Just replacing the belt is noted below.

p.s. the Lexus dealer will be at least twice, probably even more, that price.

Thank you for the info. I’ll have to check around and see if there’s any shops that specialize in Lexus and see what they charge. Thanks again!

Independent mechanic for sure, better if they specialize in toyota/lexus. Toyota dealer (not Lexus, their quote was outrageous) quoted me roughly ~$1200 including parts. My independent charged me about $500 for labor but I also got a bunch of things done on top of the TB. Parts for my timing belt ran about $250 for OE parts.

Worth every penny, idle is now much smoother and before the TB change my idlers were literally screaming and I could hear them from a block away.

150k miles. Couldn't be happier with how smoothly it runs. Regular maintenance (oil and filter changes) with coolant and fluid changes every once in a while.

Tires and brakes are variable depending on driving conditions (more frequent brake pad changes if you live in a city and experience a lot of stop and go traffic)

Follow the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual for every 5000, 10k, 20k, etc miles and you should be fine.

We have 2 2004 RX330s. One has 138,000 miles and the other just turned 70,000. Both have been great cars for my teenage daughters to drive.

Thanks for commenting. I’m glad to hear you’re happy. I’m so frustrated because family and friends keep telling me not to get this car I want.
