Battery for Second Generation RX 350
Hi,
I live in New England area and I am thinking of replacing the battery for my 08-RX350 before this winter. I have got the following quote... Can someone please suggest which option is better?
1. Lexus Battery thru Lexus Dealership - $158 +tax ($110 for battery and $48 for installation)
2. Optima (720CCA - red top battery) thru Advance Auto parts - $150 +tax (for battery and free installation; Price is after applying coupons)
3. Interstate 800 CCA battery - $125 + tax ($110 for battery and $15 for installation)
Thanks in advance.

At BJ's they have Exide battery for $80 (720 CCA w/84 months warranty), but the installation is being done by Monro Muffler and they charge $30.
Lexus dealership didn't provide the battery name, they just mentioned it as OEM and the price.

Costco usually have the best (or close to that) pricing on batteries. If you don't have time to check then I'd recommend get the Interstate 800 CCA, mainly because you're from the New England area. I think $15 is worth it if you don't feel comfortable replacing your battery. I'd recommend to learn how to replace it yourself though.
The warranty on batteries is usually pro-rated after a certain date. From that on they would only reimburse you a portion of that full amount. I usually don't pay much attention to warranties over 3 or 4 years as I'd be happy to replace my battery every 3-4 years just to be safe.

If you buy a $2.00 wrench you can save the "installation" charges.
I've replaced several batteries in my several Lexus cars over the years, and I am happy with the one I get from the Lexus parts department at the dealership, which I easily install myself. The advantages of this are that you know it's the right size and that the terminals are on the correct sides.

yeah replacing a battery is extremely simple. Would you pay someone to change the batteries on your remote control for your TV?
Disconnect the old battery from the car, connect the new battery. You are now finished.

Also, I like to use the anti-corrosion washers on my batteries. And, since I like Permatex products I always grab a pack of their Battery Protector gel at the counter to put on the terminals. Those may not be necessary in your case, however, it helps keep these idle hands busy.

Had to buy a new battery for my 2008 RX with 27000 miles on it this morning. First time I've ever not had a battery last at least 8 years. Went with a Duralast gold. $110. At least my daughter got a good laugh at jumpstarting the Lexus with her 98 Grand Prix. (That I just put a battery in last month)
