Do you place the jack stands with the wood block under the jack point with the seam (ridge)? And if you do, did you cut out a slit in the wood block so it would fit over the seam and touch the flat areas like the hockey puck?

No I haven't cut any slits, just put the wooden block on the jack or jackstand.
