Default Sewell Lexus Timing Belt and Water Pump Combo Kit

Has anyone bought and had this combo installed?

Supposedly the water pump is leaking and the car is over 90k miles so the timing belt needs to be changed as well, so might as well do it all at once. Also, cam seals and crank seal necessary to purchase and replace?

It is a hedge against a future problem and recommended in my book to install the seals. Minimal additional cost with everything already taken apart, all things considered, in the big picture should one of these seals begin to leak.

What other things should be done at this time? I assume drive belts for sure, idler pulley if there is one. Any other seals or maintenance items that make sense when it's that far apart?

The Sewell kit includes 2 idler pulleys.

Thermostat is an optional call. Have not heard of any problems with this item though.

You can buy a 14 piece timing belt kit on eBay with OEM parts for around $250.

Just check to make sure parts are compatible with your vehicle in advance.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Did anyone do a self-install and/or have the PDF of the replacement and install process? I've gotten quotes from the dealership (parts/labor for $923; no cam or crank seals) and Lexus specialist (parts provided/labor only for $450).

I also found the Aisin kit which includes the water pump, idler and tensioner bearings, timing belt, and tensioner (standard with kit Aisin kit P/N TKT-026 and optional with Aisin kit P/N TKT-006). TKT-006 costs $136.80 and TKT-026 costs $193.06. Still would have to purchase the cam and crank seals.

Going to do more parts pricing research tonight...

There are several write ups on the job.

And, alchemist just finished doing this and had additional information including pictures. Just do a search to find the details.

RX330inFL is correct, I did a TB/pump writeup recently and now reflecting back on it, The cam and crank seals and thermostat are not needed. The parts you listed are fine. The crank seal and cam seals dont get as much pressure as the rear main seal does so you dont need to change them yet. I changed my crank seal but it looked fairly new. I didnt touch the cam seals. I will do all of these at 250k miles.

Thanks for the update on the seals. Was not sure if you mentioned that in your previous thread. Perhaps I missed it or just forgot I read it.

Thanks again everyone. I just ordered the Aisin water pump and gasket for about $58. Any recommendation on timing belt brand? I forget who makes the OEM belt.

Mitsobushi (sorry about spelling) was one of the original belt manufacturers.
