Question I've had it!

Guys,
I took my '07 RX350 in for an oil change to a local quick oil change place that I've been using for awhile. So far, so good. So....I'm in there at 54,000 miles and this guy walks over to me from the garage area and says I have "sludge" "globbing" out of the oil pan and I need an engine flush. WTF! Are you kidding me! OK....I get upselling. But, isn't this a little beyond the pale. I mean the manual doesn't even mention flushes of any kind at any time. I get I could do the changes myself. Just don't have time.

Should I do a follow up with the dealer? Wouldn't I experience other symptoms? Smoke? Engine noise?

Sorry to waste space. Just wonder about other's experiences.

John

Hold your horses. Take deep breaths.

If you have been using this oil change place consistenly and you are changing your oil every 5,000 miles or so, no way you will have the sludge issue.

Sludge stories are from the past. way past.

Tell us more about the story...what did you do after you heard the sludge story?

Did you still have the oil change? I suggest you stay away from that place. Unless there's more to your story.

There are no known sludge issues on our RX's!

OK...all calm. It was a reputable franchise. Thanks for the support. The oil was dark, but normal with no smell. Change is definitely in the cards. Cool to know about "no Sludge" reports.
Thank you

like mandyfig said, if you change it every 5K miles...there's nothing to worry about.....they are tying to get some more $$$ out of your pocket.

are you using dino oil? if you are still worrying about that, I would probably switch to synthetic....

Find another place for RX maintenance. May I suggest your local Toyota dealership. Most Toyota shops now have an express lube (30 - 45 min) service. No appointment necessary.

That is exactly what I'm going to do. Thank you all for your comments. Sorry I popped off.

All ok, we are here to listen and offer guidance. Much like what we received when we were in a similar soup as you were in from the old timers around.

Give and take.
