My Lexus RX has an annoying whine. It is continuous, not changing pitch with speed, just seemingly getting louder. I took it to the dealer last week, had a tech drive it, and he said it was normal gear noise. I don't think it's normal. I've owned many, many cars, including a 2005 Lexus RX, and never heard a similar whine.

Just got back from a 1,000 mile trip, and the whine about drove me nuts. It was loudest around 80 mph, my preferred driving speed. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon for the dealer to check it again.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

have a whine or droning sound that starts at 75 to 80. The dealership took it for a test drive and indicated that they "couldn't duplicate the problem". I talked to the tech and he only drove at 65. He said they can't drive over the speed limit. The noise is from the right rear and I think it is a wheel bearing starting to go bad. I am going to hang in there until it is worse so they can duplicate the problem or I exceed the drive train warranty.

The service writer told me they couldn't drive over the speed limit, but I told him I would drive if the service tech would ride with me. I'll see what happens tomorrow afternoon.
