Default will 10w30 oil work on an 08 rx

My wife took the RX into a jiffy lube place last week for an oil change and i noticed yesterday they put in 10w30, i googled the recommended oil and a I think its supposed to be 5w30. Should I take it back and get them to swap it or is this fine? Thanks again fellas

I don't think you need to take it back right now, your okay for 1 oil change if its during the summer season.
The number are related to the viscosity of the oil. The higher the number the "thicker" the oil's function.
The first number is the Winter viscosity and the second is Summer.
The two oil (5w30 and 10w30) would be fine anywhere except places where you get hard freezing in Winter. If that is the case take the 5W30 oil. Its thinner viscosity will make Winter engine starting easier.

First of all, Dont go to Jiffy lube With your Lexus. ( I wouldnt take my Cub Cadet to them) Secondly, go back, and have them change it out. And find a good ind. shop to have oil changes done. Or better yet, just take it to the dealer! My dealer charges $39.55 for a Valvoline Synthetic blend oil change. Cant beat that!, and then you have service records from the dealer to boot.

Believe me that this won't happen again. They tried to con her into getting a new air filter too but good thing she was there when we bought and replaced the last one about 5 months ago(i never checked it out yet though so it might need a new one but 5 months seems short). If neccessary i'd just change it myself because I wouldn't even consider taking it back, i'd be too scared of them being total dicks and tampering with something else

If you can do it, then do it. I am like you, you will never know what they will do to your RX when you take it back and they agree to change the oil.

Stay away from that place.

If you are looking for quick and convenient, check to see if any of your local Toyota dealerships has Express Service. Quick oil changes without appointments.

"up-selling" is standard procedure at Jiffy Lube. They will ALWAYS try to do additional work, necessary or not.

There's a lot you could do... Call JL, ask for manager (then ask for regional managers name & number)... Proceed to tell manager you want a refund (improper service). Refuse any offers to "correct" (they'll likely screw it up more). Call regional if no result, then corporate...

http://www.jiffylube.com/about/contact.aspx

If manager(s), corporate don't cooperate, dispute charge if paid by credit card (improper service).

Contacting the FTC will trigger an investigation against any company once enough people complain.

Hope this helps!

As others have pointed out earlier, 10W30 should be OK. To make sure, you can consult the owner's manual. 5W30 covers all continental USA. In summer 10W30 should be fine for the engine.

For the vehicles in the family, living in central Texas, I have used 10W30 all year long. Personally, I do not like the additives in the oil to expand the range, so a narrower spread is better (imho). A while back I have switched to Euro-synthetic and that goes as low as '0'.

You can go back and make a fuss about it, and most probably they will change the oil out, but realistically you are OK with 10W30. If they chose to play hardball, they can dig up the manual and show/prove 10W30 is OK. You can win the argument if you say that your engine will be seeing frigid conditions (arctic like) before the next change.

I do my oil change myself, but when I took my vehicles for service at dealership, I would take the oil with me. I am sure any shop you go to will gladly take and (hopefully) use the oil you bring.

10 weight oil is perfectly fine for warm and temperate temperatures. i would not run it though if you have winters where the temps are below freezing for any length of time

The 10w30 will not harm anything. I'd be more concerned with the over tightened drain plug, a JL trademark.

It may affect the variable valve timing. Personally, I`d drain it out. And if you have the canister filter, replace that too. I`m sure JL filters are not one of the best out their.
