Default FWD vs. AWD for Rx 350 - 2008/2009

I live in Charlotte North Carolina and thinking of buying CPO Rx 350. What are the benefits of having AWD vs. FWD? Thanks

One man's opinion...

You do not need AWD in NC. For the little bit of snow you might get there a decent set of tires will be all you need. The extra MPG will also be of some benefit.

Now, if they offer you a great deal on an AWD model with all the features you want it is not a reason to walk away either.

The average difference is only about $150/year.

You are talking about maybe .2 seconds, not even noticeable unless you are a professional racer. To me, AWD is a no-brainer, especially when you are stuck somewhere it would have saved you.

Is there a FWD version of 350? I thought all 350 are AWD. At least in Europe.

Both FWD & AWD RX350 are sold in the US. The AWD is generally bought by customers what drive in snow. Here in California the vast majority are FWD.

if you get snow than AWD is the way to go for sure. Can anyone confirm the cost diff? $3000 and $150 is a pretty big difference. I can't see it being $3000 though because that's an extra $250 a month in gas over the FWD

If you looked at the URL you will see why I used "MPG" in the singular. One MPG city and one MPG highway difference. So, it is only $150.

However, it does make the car slower and heavier in addition to using more fuel. Also, a more expensive purchase.

Am not against AWD, just in the RX if it is not needed. If we were talking about another vehicle and location I might have a different opinion.

I guess I shouldve check lol $150 is nothing cost wise and i agree with you in regards to only getting it if you need it. We nver took the FWD version for a test but the AWD is a pretty fast ride already. I looked up my ride and the yearly cost is $6300 and I hate to admit it but its pretty damn close, now that sucks!

WOW. That is a bit high.

(12000 miles) x (1 gallon/20 miles) x ($4.00/1 gallon) = $2400

Charlotte hardly gets any snow and rain. I'd pick the FWD RX350. Unless you plan to do trips to the north and west around snowy and mountainous regions, then do get the AWD. I love my AWD by the way because I sometimes drive on the sidewalks in busy downtown traffics to avoid traffic congestion. I need all my wheels working at some point in time or another.
