So I have be able to borrow one from my friends and drove total about around trip 2230 miles from VA to St.Pete Fl and some miles around there too.
I have not be able get mpg better then 22 mpg on hwy, but avg speed on interstate 95 was around 75 mph. The roof cargo was made by Yakima Skybox (latest ver. of this). We have load 5 beach chairs(two kids size), four sun umbrellas, beach towels (big), water activies (ball, snorkeling and ect). So it's useful thing a lot.

Sounds like you had loaded vehicle for the trip. Good to hear you did not have to go out and purchase new for such a trip. Am sure your friend was happy to see it get some additional use... for a fee.
I find the water temp in the Gulf this time of year to be way too hot let alone the outside temps.

It's about 91F during the day, but we had only one rain during our stay there. So it was fine. Yes water temp was a very warm, but I like it and for kids was amazing time to be in water as much as they wanted. We were on beach from 8/9am until 11am or 12 pm, then back 4 pm.
We were stayed on Treasure Island itself right on beach (cross a road). We rent a small cottage at south end of the Treasure Island.
Lexus RX did his job fine driving 4-5 hours none stop until next fill up. Now I have really appreciated RX. The seats were perfect for long none stop driving, only one thing I wish a fuel tank could hold more fuel.
Amazing sunset.

Sounds like you had a good trip. Good to hear. I see in the first picture the roof cargo box. Does not look awkward to deal with.
Once you get away from the gulf (water) breeze the temps get quite a bit hotter in the center of the state. Why going to Orlando this time of year and walking around mid-day can be hazardous to your health.
Yes, you were not far from the Don CeSar. There are some nice beaches in that area and looks like you might have had that one to yourselves. When I go, I go to the beaches south of Sarasota on the same coast and closer to my location.

The roof cargo (Yakima Skybox) had prevented to open rear hatch all way up. It's only one inconvenience with this box. But I found way to solve this problem, I got pipe insulation tube, so when I need to open rear hatch I will slide insulation between roof box and top plastic spoiler. This one below.
