OEM Brake Pad/Shim Question
Got a general question for the Forum.
My '06 RX330 uses the OEM brake pad P/N 04465-48100. The OEM shim kit is 04945-0E020. While the pads are available at most Lexus and Toyota dealers (and their websites), the shim kit is apparently a Lexus exclusive. The pad kit is used on several different vehicles, both North American and Japan made Toyota/Lexus. I found a shim kit, P/N 04945-48080, that is also listed for the pad number referenced above, and found a cross ref to the RX330 as well. However, I did note that the part was identified as for Japan-made, while the earlier shim number (0E020) was for North American models.
Is there a huge difference in these shim kits? The Japan version is available via most Toyota dealerships, while the other is not. They both fit the same pad. Would the caliper design be a factor?
Just wondering.......

Japan and Canadian RX330's are the same spec.

You don't suppose that Toyota/Lexus has two part numbers for the same part (kind of reminds me of the trailer hitch post)? The "Japan" made part number runs about $2 higher than the "Canada" made part number, but is in greater supply and availability through Toyota dealers, or so it seems.

Seems like they could be reused pretty effectively as long as you have new grease to put on (which comes with the shim kit but I presume can be had separately). Speaking of which, I just did my brakes recently and I wasn't sure if the grease goes only between the shim and the pad or also on the shim where the caliper (outboard) or piston (inboard) make contact. To be safe I put a little there at the contact points too.

Found at the front counter at Advance Auto Parts. Little packets enough for just one side... so you need two.
