Default Whining sound at low gear, low rpm

My 05 rx330 with 91k miles just started making a whining noise in what seems to be 1st gear at around 1500 rpm. It is only in that gear, around that rpm and around 5-7 mph. If I am starting from a stop sign or stop light and accelerating past 5-7mph, I don't even hear it. It is really noticeable driving around a parking lot or down a stretch of pavement where you are slowing almost to a stop and only driving up to 5mph. Any ideas?

Have you replaced any belts lately? An 05 with 91k is a good time to check those accessory belts. Replace the timing belt while you're at it.

That is a good point, I have not changed any belts since I got the car. I'll have to look in to that.

With a/c running. I haven't paid attention without it running, I've pretty much run my a/c all the time. I'll check that. It definitely seems that the sound only occurs at about 1250 rpm, just above or below that rpm and there is no sounds. It isn't a high pitched sound either, kind of like a moaning sound.

I checked the a/c and the noise does go away when the a/c if off. What would it be with the a/c on? A belt?
