Yes, the Curt Hitch does have the square bracket beneath the muffler. The look is different than the Toyota hitch cited at the beginning of the thread.
I don't mind the look at all. I only wanted to show there is some price variation and tell that the Curt product is a very good product.

Will the PT228-69045 fit a 2006 RX330? Also, does it ship standard with the wiring harness? Wanting to order one today but toyota people I've talked to on the phone cannot seem to answer either of these questions. Thanks!

The 2006 RX330 is still a second generation RX, so I'm pretty sure the PT228-69045 will fit. The hitch does come with the wiring harness.

I just picked up the Toyota Highlander hitch and it fits great on my RX400h. It cost $275 vs $504 for the Lexus. The only difference between the Lexus and Toyota is the rubber plug cap. The hitch includes a wire harness that plugs right in; no splicing wires or having to fish the pigtail out the tailgate. The OEM hitch is the best design on the market.

Just got the PT228-69045 Highlander hitch from Champion Toyota here in houston for my wife's RX330. Champion Originally quoted me $279. but I got it for $249. when i told them I was a CL member. The install took about 2 hours, mostly because i had to remove the entire trunk floorboard for the electrical plug. The hitch came with a Toyota logo plug which I'll be replacing with a Lexus plug today for $14 @ the dealership. This is definitely the most discrete hitch i've seen on an RX. I actually used it this weekend to tow a uhaul trailer and everything worked great! Couldn't be happier! Here are a couple picks....

first nut specified by manual won't catch
everything is lined up and in place, except for the first nut that the manual tells you to screw in. (on passenger side, the one in the middle that sit next to the muffler) the damn thread just won't catch!!! i tried several nuts from the package and about to give up. i'm only going to be attaching two bikes to this hitch. Anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to get this thing in?i don't think i'll be causing any subframe damage with the low amount of weight i'd be towing if i used it as is.
edit: after another 20 minutes i finally got it in. just a weird angle and not much space to work with. all in all a very easy diy, trickiest part is getting the hitch in position but if you have a second person and something to prop it up a little bit it's not too bad. i also really need to invest in a torque wrench one of these days

Any 2'' should work. I purchased mine from Auto Zone. You can get them almost anywhere...any auto parts store, home depot, uhaul, and even wal-mart.
