Aftermarket Weak Antenna
I installed an Alpine IVA-W505 head unit and now have a very weak radio signal. A friend insists the problem is the alpine, he probable would know more about it than myself. Is the antenna power amplified, requiring a remote? I have a Metra radio adapter harness wired for remote but wonder if the manufacture missed the antenna remote. Anybody with an aftermarket head unit have this issue? Or anybody have any experiences with an antenna booster or hidden antenna? Thanks

I have a pioneer avic z120bt head unit in my rx 400h and have the same issue with AM radio. Out of curiosity, are you still using the factory amp? I am bypassing mine and am concerned that the factory amp provides some sort of antenna boost beyond what is built into the radio causing the lack of reception. An antenna adapter would probably help but I haven't been able to find one for Toyota/Lexus vehicles.

I bypassed the amp but it does not make any difference. I install the radio and then bypassed the amp months later. I do not even have the amp plugged in. I also tried using a Y-adapter and a diversity adapter (the y-adapter was for two Motorola sized antennas) to channel both antenna leads in to one, no help.
I am contemplating looking at the antenna install point to see if there is a remote wire and connecting it to one I ran for a sub. If it does not have one I found a post in this forum were a rx300 owner used a MDX power amplified antenna. Or I was hoping someone had some words of wisdom regarding aftermarket antenna amplifier boosters. There are many types but it is hard to tell if they really work.
