Default trailer hitch lexus PT228-48045 = toyota PT228-69045

Read all the posts here. To save reading all the posts the toyota highlander PT228-69045 will fit 2004-2009 RX330/350. The only difference is the toyota logo plug and the lexus logo plug. Actually the hitch itself has both part numbers stamped into it making them the same. I just installed one for a highlander on my 09 rx350 . perfect fit and wiring plugged right in. I have instructions here. IMO this hitch is superior to aftermarket because it is attached to frame with 10 bolts versus aftermarket 6 bolts. Might be overkill for 3500# hitch . I picked mine on CL. Searched highlander hitch and got it for 50.00

where did you order it? CL, what is it? Did you install yourself?

Reading your message, I am thinking maybe I can ask a Toyota dealer quote me the parts and service too.

I can also confirm the Highlander hitch fit the RX350 perfectly. Got mine from my local Toyota dealer for $375 and to top it off they had a bunch of Lexus hitch plugs.

Thanks, groomerz & aquatrax.

Checked with Toyota dealers here in Canada, PT228-69045 is for 2004~2007 Highlander, and PT228-69080 is for 2008 Highlander.

You know what?! $520 for PT228-69045, and $550 for PT228-69080. Well, another rip off for canucks.

I guess the computer systems here are better to minimize revenue leakage for the dealers and Toyota.

Thanks for the info. I have been trying to confirm that both hitches, toyota and Lexus, would fit my 2008 400H. no one I spoke to at either dealerships could confirm it.

I would like to see what the finished products looks like on the vehicle. Can you post some pictures online?

i really appreciate your help.

From looking over the web, I have found this hitch to fit these vehicles:
This Product Fits The Following Vehicles

2004 - 2005 Toyota Highlander
2004 - 2006 Lexus RX330
2007 - 2009 Lexus RX350
2006 - 2007 Toyota Highlander All Models, except Hybrid
2006 - 2008 Lexus RX400h Hybrid
2006 - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Models

I hope this helps.

C guy I think you better take it to the stealership because you are having problems reading the posts that are right in front of you .

Read the signatures in the posts man and the years mysteriously appear.

I am done feeding the fish and for the safety of the public don't install the hitch yourself.

Motrx,

yes they are the same hitches. The hitches had both part numbers physically stamped onto the bottom side of the hitch, The lexus number and the toyota number. I originally learned this from this forum and confirmed it when I purchased a hitch removed from a 05 highlander and put it on my 09 350

Read the install manual I posted and you can see the 400 has 2 small lower bumper trim pieces that you discard when mounting the hitch. the 350 doesn't have them

I saw you found the pics in another post

Good luck

I wanted to thank everyone for their post. It saved me some money on the hitch and I wanted to pass it on.

I just bought the toyota tow hitch PT228-69045. I got it last week and installed it. I have a 2008 RX400H and it fits perfect, both the tow and wiring harness.
The best I could find the lexus hitch was $400 plus shipping.
the local Lexus dealer was $600, for just the hitch and no installation.

Local toyota dealer would get their hitch for $275.
I found it on toyota parts barn for $220 and you can get a discount from some of the toyota forums. I saved 3% with a code. Shipping for me was only $28. So got it all for under $250 and it looks great.

here is the link:

I hope this helps.

I can also confirm that these two model numbers are the same hitch. I took a picture of the hitch showing both part numbers stamped on the hitch. It installed without a problem on my 2008 RX 350.

Does someone have a picture of the factory hitch on the car. Wanted to see if the hitch goes over the muffler or underneath the muffler like the aftermarket hitches.

Thanks in advance.

Does the Toyota hitch (PT228-69045) come with the wiring harness like the Lexus one does?

Yes, the Toyota hitch does have the wiring harness attached. It is exactly the same except for the plastic receiver cap. Installation is the same, everything.

I order the hitch from my local Toyota dealership for $275. You can find it online for cheaper, but shipping kills the savings due to the weight. I can't believe the same hitch at the Lexus dealer is $504!
