Recall Notice RX330, 350, 400h - New
#31
Has anyone here actually experienced the "sudden unintended acceleration"? I have had it happen twice.
The second time, I was sitting at a stop light with my foot on the brake, when suddenly I heard the engine sound like it was at full throttle, and the RX330 lunged forward. I stayed on the brake hard, and it stopped just before hitting the car in front of me. The high RPM only lasted a couple of seconds or so. I took the car to the Lexus dealer, and they kept it for a week, but, of course, could not duplicate the problem.
I had tried to duplicate the problem myself several times by sliding my foot off the brake pedal to the right, and stomping on the foot pedal. (When the sudden acceleration happened, the engine sound did not "rev up" like pressing on the accelerator pedal, but was suddenly wide open.) The times I slid my foot off the brake onto the gas pedal, the car went much further forward before I could get my foot back on the brake, and would have certainly hit the car in front of me.
I ended up trading the 2005 RX for a 2009 RX350, as I had read nothing about that year model having the sudden acceleration problem.

Nah that is what we all know as engine hesitation in the RX. Most RXs experience this. what you need to do is to get your car flash/reprogram on the transmission at the dealer. Since you own a '09 RX, it should be under warranty.

You must not have read my post. I was sitting at a stop light with my right foot on the brake pedal, not on or near the gas pedal. The vehicle suddenly accelerated by itself, no input from me. That is not a transmission problem. I have owned two Toyota Highlanders and a 2005 Lexus RX330 and am very familiar with the transmission stumble and acceleration. That was not what happened.

RE: Unintended Acceleration.
Read this? http://www.nhtsa.gov/staticfiles/nvs...-UA_report.pdf
This throttle system has undergone more scrutiny and testing than any other component in the history of the automobile. Both NASA and NHTSA have poured over this from it's design, component selection, fail-safes and it's implementation. In the link you can read in typical government detail what they tested and their findings.
There is a recall under way that does some things to the carpet retainers and floor mats of various models that your dealer should be aware of. I seem to recall that these were not UA issues though but rather a stuck pedal that wouldn't release properly due to the carpet or floor mat being in the way.
Either way, I would be camping out at the dealer as it would make me unable to use the vehicle or transport family or friends in it if I felt it was unsafe.
