2006 RX330 - Checking the transmission fluid level
What is the procedure for checking the automatic transmission fluid level in a 2006 RX330? I am surprised that this procedure is not covered in the owners manual. The manual describes how to check the coolant, power steering, and brake fluid levels, but not the transmission fluid.
The Engine Compartment Overview drawing on page 539 does not show the location of a dip-stick for checking the transmission fluid. Where is the transmission fluid dip-stick located?

well, this is how i do it; first off check it hot,dont mess around with cold checks. put the vehicle on a level surface i.e your garage,or any level surface. pull out the stick, (slide the stop over with your thumb first) and the level should read full,or close to it. hope this helps. some makes you have to check in nuetral,but i believe ours is park. also,note the condition of the fluid. it should be nice and red,and no funny smells.

The dipstick is located opposite the Oil dipstick.
As long as you do not have tranny leak, your tranny fluid level should be good.
In my case, I do drain and fill. The manual states the FILL quantity of fluid. I fill it up based on specs. That's how I know I have the right amount of tranny fluid.

I periodically pull the tranny dipstick to check on how PINK the fluid is. What I do is dub new fluid in a paper towel, then right beside it I dub the existing tranny fluid and I compare color. The closer they are to each other indicates that you have fresh fluid. I also smell it.
In time the old fluid will turn brownish, that means it is burnt and it will smell burnt.
My last drain and fill was at 30K and have 55K now and it still looks good. I will give it another 5K. I will drain and fill when I hit 60K or maybe even 65K depends on condition of the fluid.
I check my tranny fluid every month.

CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL
HINT:
Drive the vehicle so that the engine and transaxle are at normal operating temperature.
Fluid temperature: 70 - 80°C (158 - 176°F)
a. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
b. With the engine idling and the brake pedal depressed, shift the lever into all positions from the P to
the L (S1 ) position, and return to the P position.
c. Take out the dipstick and wipe it clean.
d. Put it back all the way into the pipe.
e. Take it out and check that the fluid level is within the HOT position.

If significantly higher, then yes you will want to do something about it.

When the engine is cold, it showed level as if engine is hot.. And when hot, it showed even higher., so i took out 1/2 qt with a hand pump
