Default Compatibility of Tonneau Covers

Hi there,

I bought a CPO 2008 RX400h which did not come with a tonneau (cargo) cover. The dealer said he'd get me one, but later made it clear that he is not required to under the 161 point check, and subsequently has been dragging his feet.

I'm inclined to get one off of eBay or elsewhere online, but I'm a little concerned about whether the tonneau covers on the various RX models are compatible with each other. For example, the dealer tried to give me one from another RX, but the clips were the wrong size. I have seen on another thread here that the clips changed to a smaller size in 2007, because headrest bars got smaller. But, my sense was that the clips they tried to give me, that didn't fit, were too small for my 2008 (or, that the headrest bars on my vehicle were too big). Did they get big again? Or are they just different on the RX400h?

Does anyone know what RX model tonneau covers will be compatible with my RX400h? If I can only get one from another 2008 RX400h, I feel like it will be very hard to find.

Thanks!

Congrats on the new ride! You made the same mistake I did on a previous car purchase by leaving the dealer without everything he promised you or not having it in writing. If he's not going to give you one anymore, i'd atleast ask him if you can try one from a 350 to see if it fits. I doubt they would make the cover different for the hybrid but you never know. Have you looked in the storage compartment in the trunk underneath the mat? thats where we found ours.

Thanks for the response. The tonneau cover definitely is not hiding in the car.

I'm still interested to hear if anyone knows if there is some compatibility chart for the RX tonneau covers.

I purchased a cover for my 2007 RX350 from eBay earlier this year. What I learned in reseaching is that the RX350s made in Canada have a different size headrest post than those made in Japan. According to previous posts in this forum, you can determine the country of manufacture by looking at your VIN. Perhaps you can do a sezrch and find it or a member will respond.

Perhaps the 400 has the same issue as I suspect the headrest and posts for the 400 are the same as the 350s.

Good luck!
