Default After timing belt change code P0016 Check engine light trac off and VSC lights on.

After timing belt change code P0016 with Check engine light trac off and VSC light on.

Put on the entire kit...timing belt,tensioner, idler, and water pump. When I took it apart to put the new cam crank sensor I inspected everything and all looked good.

Changed the sensor and reset code, a few hours later back on. Car seems to run fine. Any ideas anyone? This is driving me crazy. I didn't think the sensor was bad. Car was running great...just due for timing belt.

Even witht the belt 1 or 2 teeth off it will still run good and throw a cel light. I have a trick if its off using a bolt the length of the cam and the back cam shaft.If your timing is off just insert the bolt right where the belt and cam sprockets meet and rotate until the bolt drops out. It will let the belt slip 1 tooth. If it goes the wrong direction just put the bolt in at the top instead of the bottom. Check your timing and check back in.

Default cams were off by 1

Cams were off by 1. Fixed it then gave me a P0018 without lighting the dash, crank was off by 1 also. Tried your trick. Just one thing to say, YOU RULE!!!!!!! Worked perfectly.

Can you be a little more specific on this trick? I'm having the same exact problem.

I would be very careful trying to use his trick. Basically what he is doing is placing a bolt on the cam gear where the timing belt comes in contact with the gear. As you rotate the engine, the timing belt will ride up over the shaft of the bolt as the bolt travels around the cam gear. You have to select a bolt that will allow the belt to move by one tooth. The extra timing belt length has to come from somewhere and if you are forcing it around a cam gear it will put an increased amount of tension on the belt or one of the other pulleys. The best way to correct your timing problem is to start with the crankshaft at TDC and verifying that your cams are also at TDC. Chances are the rear cam gear is off by one tooth. The thing to do then is to wrap tie-wraps on the timing belt at the cam gear that is installed properly, and at the crankshaft. Loosen the tensioner pulley and move the offending cam gear by one tooth. Lexus timing belts have a line marked on them..If you start with that line on the rear cam gear mark, then you can easily check all the other timing marks.
