Original Filter!!! Cause they will never fail on you!!! You can probably go through swell lexus or carson toyota for discount prices on filters

mobil 1 is the best and easily avaible. mobil 1 filter + 0w-40 oil, you only need to change every 1 year/10k miles, proved by Toyota

Just curious, your move to 0w-40 because of the high mileage or something?

As for the OP filter question, if you want to be safe just use OEM. If not, any decent reputable company would do just fine. Just don't buy cheap brand that are known to have cheap filtering media, rubber nitrite anti drain back valve, and 'clicker type' bypass valve. There isn't really the 'best' filter out there - It's really people preference (just like oil brand). As for me, currently I'm using Puralor Pure 1 - because it's convenience for me. You can also do some reading on Bobistheoilguy to get more ideas about oil and filters.

0W-40 is pretty thick for these motor`s,it has a CST of like 14. GC is 12.

There is a difference in filters. Some are fully synthetic fiber elements and some are conventional paper elements.

In my view the OEM is not always the best. Logically, Toyota has to make a profit and there is always a balance act. If there is a choice of filter that is 8/10 (performance and quality) that cost $10 and there is a filter that is 9.8/10 (performance and quality) that cost $12 I would not be surprised if they used the one that is 8/10.

The OEM is a safe choice but I don't know if it is the best choice.

If you have the option with your vehicle, look into getting an oversized oil filter. For instance, with my RX300, I used to use the OEM-sized K&N HP-1002, but then found out that the bigger K&N HP-2009 also fit.

Those of you with the 2004-2006 RX330 or 2006-2009 RX400h will find that the K&N HP-1002 also works along with the larger K&N HP-2009.

I vote for either Mobile 1 or K&N they are identical filters except for the nut/screw on the bottom of the K&N, and cost. Both filters are made my Champion Laboratories

For the last 35,000 miles I have used the Purolator Pure One PL20195 oil filter. It's a Ford filter, but is just a bit bigger. Everything else compares the same as the Lexus filter. I like the idea of a larger filter. I also use Castrol Synthetic Edge oil. Have had no problems.

I will use either OEM or WIX. The NAPA filters are made by WIX and are therefore easy to pickup in single or quantity as needed. They too have available both a short and a long version of the oil filter needed by my 2004 RX330. I use the long edition as it is only 20 cents more.
