You have a source for that please? I've not found any in my searching. I do know they had issues with pre 2004 but I haven't seen the same with 2004 or later.

04`s & 05`s had some shift jerking/hesitation problems, but not many failure`s at all. Maybe it is just the solenoid in yours thats acting up.

Adamjeeps is spot on. It is especially true in todays world with dealers squeezed on sales and service. Some resort to unnecessary work. Get a second opinion.

I've noticed other threads where the VSC and check eng lights came on and it was something as simple as the gas cap being replaced incorrectly or an O2 sensor that needed to be replaced. Is it really possible/likely that the tranny would go out like that with no problems or slippage before? Wonder what this guy ended up doing...

We put a claim through Lexus corporate and they are only willing to cover 20% of the cost...We are so disappointed with Toyota/Lexus and that they do not stand behind their product. This car has been Lexus dealer serviced from the original owner. We feel like we got the shaft big time.

Has anyone else been in this same situation? What was your outcome? How did you handle it?

We will never, ever buy another Toyota/Lexus vehicle again. We have a 1997 Acura 3.2TL that has 100,000 miles and not one issue!

Not to be smart, but those Acura transmission`s are no better. you have been lucky so far my friend. Now as for the Lexus,I would try and at least get a 50% deal from Toyota. Have you had the car serviced their, beside`s the 1st owner?

The OP message was from six months ago. Thread just got resurrected. They are long gone now. We never did hear how they made out.

I think you should get a 2nd opinion. Do you have another Lexus dealer around? Or aat least bring it to a Toyota shop. Good luck.

This 1 incident does not represent Toyota-Lexus but do understand your feeling. 2004 RX330's are not known for tranny failures like 2nd GEN Acura's, 1999 to 2002.

Yes, the others are more likely to be problems than the transmission. Most of the time when those lights come on together it has been a faulty brake switch or such.

Big ticket repairs, such as a transmission problem, should always get a second opinion if nothing more than to get pricing. The OP did not mention any other symptoms than the lights so the transmission problem sounds a bit dubious.

I find this amusing because the thread was 6 months ago and this person did not bother to even say more after an opened and ended message. I would not be surprised that it was a spam because there is no wayyyyy a Lexus transmission gone bad at 50 K Miles. It is like 1 in 10 millions... Unless, the RX was driven for 50K miles without trans fluid change and had been driven hard by the previous owner.

^^^^^ Yup I agree. Seems allot more common these days some one comes on a site of a competitor and says really bad stuff that is not sure to give pause to potential buyers and owners of a product. I see it (I think) in tech forums like cell phones, TV's etc. etc.

I would agree, one bad apple gets considerable press, while the hundreds that run perfectly never get any kudos. Kind of like gun control. One incident and the whole world goes mad, yet thousands of us use them correctly.

Unless I start seeing repetitive threads like this, I'm not going to worry. All car forums generate as many if not more negative threads as positive. If you frequented a forum long enough before buying the car being discussed, you'd never buy anything.

That said, I'll keep knocking on wood my wife's '04 holds up. 65K miles and no issues thus far.

I do not think the entire transmission is bad. Usually, sensors and solonoids go bad. The transmission replacement or overhaul is required when you see metal fragments in the pan. Did the dealer show you metal shelving in the pan? Moreover, the dealers themselves do not do the transmission jobs. They subcontract to independent transmission shops. I knew a transmission shop who did the transmission work for a dealer. The dealer paid about $1,200 to this shop and charged $2,500 to the customer. So I would suggest taking the car to an independent transmission shop that works on Lexus transmissions for advise. The transmission overhaul requires replacing hard parts. And a transmission shop will advise overhaul if it sees metal particles in the transmission fluid pan.

Normally a re-build kit is all that is required. And a reputable Tranny shop who eats and breathes transmission day in and day out.
