Default valet key waterproof?

Does anyone know if the valet key is waterproof? Seems like it is but just want to make sure. I have a 2008 RX350.

Not sure about the valet key but the key fob survived a 200 foot dive off of Fort Lauderdale in my wet suit pocket.

Water is not bad for things ... during manufacturing process, water is used for most items.

The problem is with minerals/salts with water. Typically if any item is immersed in sea water, the best thing is to wash it with water.

The important part is that item must be given plenty of time to dry. Also if the object has Oring or seal to keep water out, one should open it up [if water some how got in, you need to vent it out]. Once the thing is totally dry (or baked if possible) then you should juice it up .. connect the battery.

Salim

ps: Some items have a portion of circuit always energized (even when you do not throw the switch). So the first thing one should do is to remove/disconnect the battery.

I had my regular key go all the way in the cloths washer with no problems.

It is most certainly not waterproof. You probably can get away with getting it wet for a month or two, but the water that will inevitably leak inside of the keyfob will cause corrosion. That corrosion will eventualy lead to failure.

What I do when I go swimming...I was given a metal key that only opens the doors. It is supposed to be used with a separate plastic holder that has the RFID chip in it. I go swimming with that key, but keep the real key fob hidden in the car...nice and dry.

Not sure about the valet key, but swam around with the regular key in my swimsuit for 20 minutes before I realized what I was doing. When I opened up the key to dry it out, found that it is enclosed in a water-tight case with a rubber seal around it. My car is a 05 RX330. I can't imagine that the newer key fobs would be designed without this waterproof/watertight interior.
