Oh dear. That was an unexpected "snap" . By this theory, it must therefore mean that if I go buy an aftermarket speaker of say "$20" from the discount store down the end of the street, because it's aftermarket it's better than any factory system regardless of make. Man, you have a lot to learn.

Aftermarket speakers does not equal to better speakers, period.
To put it in simple terms,
1) It's how deep is your pocket, I had a 10,000 5.1 dts surround sound system in my Scion before, it was off the hook
2) No matter what, it's what you can hear that makes the difference, you can spend $1000 on a pair of speakers, but if you can't hear the difference between that and a $100 a pair speakers, it's no point in spending that extra $900

Installed full Boston Acoustics system
swapped out the OEM pioneer system for Boston Acoustics.
Recommending changing out fronts w/ tweeters and rear speakers for best sound improvement...however, still no bass. (maybe a powered sub would work)
I have...
- BA front components (tweeter, front 2-way) w/ OEM dash speakers
- BA rear 3-way
- 12" BA sub
- 5-ch Alpha Sonic Amp
- JL cleansweep
System is awesome...excell. highs and mids especially.
Note: Need speaker adapters to fit speakers + keep OEM amp for Navi voice and dash speakers.

I have a quick question about the ohm rating for the standard OEM speaker system in a 2007 RX400h...are they 8 ohm speakers like in my GX's Mark Levi system? Or are they the automotive standard of 4 ohm? I would hate to blow the amp by using the wrong ohm rated speakers...thanks!

Probably the safest way is to pull one and check. I wouldnt trust any other method myself. Let me give you an example of what I`m talking about,Everyone on the board, and dealership said the transmission filter is a screen (from factory) also known as a rock catcher. Well, when I dropped my transmission pan, guess what I found? it wasnt a screen in their, but a felt filter. And I have all of the service records that indicate this was never done before. Hence the fact their is only one true way to find out what your looking for.

i don't have the ML system, but the stock system isn't so bad. it's not all that but way better than most other systems. the worst system ever that i've heard is the harmon/kardon from a '05 3-series. now that's pure pathetic.

Many of you in this thread have obviously upgraded your RX sound system. Did you have any challenges finding the right system that blends into the dash? I just bought my first RX and it has the stock (non-premium) stereo in it. I would like to upgrade but also don't want to make the interior look "ghetto".

@awerner68, mowmow did a nice upgrade of the dash with a Pioneer AVIC Z-1. He posted some pictures on the thread:

we don't have ML in our RX but we absolutely love the way it sounds, and do not intend to change any of that. It may not be very loud but sounds much better than most BOSE-equipped cars.
