Just for a scientific exparement, fill up two times with 89 octane. Then reset your ecm and see what happens. Believe it or not,I get my best MPG`s on 89 octane.

No, don't do it.. When you lower your octane, the computer has to recalibrate itself to a level that is not a factory spec to accommodate for the different fuel. If you car was designed to run on premium (which it was) then why skimp on the fuel.
You may get an additional mpg, but the RX won't run the way it's supposed to..

What are the first few words re; the octane in your owners manual ? select 87 octane fuel.

we get your kind in our dealership all the time......They want to drive class but thay have 2 cents to there name, and go to jiffy lube for there 2.00 oil changes, and wonder why the 16yr old left the drain plug loose. If we get a ping problem in our dealership we take a sample and get it tested, if it comes back as crap gas, we tell them to get lost! If you wanna roll with the big dogs, get the mpg outta ur head, trade it in for a kia

My RX 330 manual states:

Select Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended.
Use of unleaded fuel with an Octane Rating or Research Octane Number lower than stated above will cause persistent heavy knocking. If it is severe, this will lead to engine damage.
I've done numerous expressway tests of both fuel types and conclude that I can average 2 MPG higher using premium than regular in my RX330. While I might be able to use regular, it is actually cheaper to use premium in my RX330, as I can go further on each dollar spent. Added benefits of running premium include a cleaner engine and improved performance.

Unless you actually do the math with your own vehicle, you might be fooling yourself if you just assume you are saving money by using regular.
