Default 10 years/100,000 mile Warranty

In light of the recent Toyota/Lexus recalls, should Toyota/Lexus be offering a 10 year/100,000 mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty? As a new (and first time) Lexus owner (16 months), I am really surprised by some of the issues that I see on this forum. Granted, Lexus does take care of almost everything during the first 48 months or 50,000 miles, but I'm really concern about problems occurring after this warranty period.

To regain consumer confidence maybe Toyota/Lexus should be offering a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty.

Your thoughts?

bumper to bumper to 10 years/100,000miles, you are out to lunch, that would never happen, the amount of stuff that goes from regular use would cost toyota a fortune, no manufacturer could afford to do that, which is why no one offers it. you are lucky some offer that for power train

LOL. OK, ok, I set the bar a little too high. But seriously, as you mentioned a few manufacturer do offer 100,000 mile coverage on the powertrain, not bumper-to-bumper. Why not Lexus/Toyota? If you believe your quality standards are the highest, then your product will perform should perform well. If you have confidence in your products, then offer why not offer the best damn warranty in the industry.

"Lexus - The Pursuit of Perfection"? I guess they're still pursuing it. When I hear of condensation in the headlights, windows falling out, transmission issues, etc, I have to wonder. Sure, nothing is "perfect" and in most cases, Lexus/Toyota is very committed to fixing the problems.

Is there anything wrong with "raising the bar"? I believe Lexus/Toyota can, else I wouldn't have been buying Japanese cars for over 30 years.

How many people will keep those cars for 10 years/100,000 miles? And the warranty often is not transferrable if the vehicle is sold. So I'm sure it's a calculated move on the manufacturer's part that they will not be paying out warranty claims beyond x years/miles. Especially true if the car is a POS. I'd say it's nothing more than a false sense of security.

I see it as two points of entry. Vehicles are sold with base warranty and for an additional cost you get a longer warranty. Should Lexus offer vehicles at lower cost to entice customers? We have to wait and see.

If any one really believe that the vehicle they are about to buy suffers from unintended acceleration, then they would be insane (imho) to buy it even if the manufacturer was to offer 1 million mile free warranty.

I had my RX 350 in for warranty service last week and in talking with the service advisor, he indicated Toyota may start to offer a 4 yr, 48,000 mileage bumper to bumper similar to BMW.

Would take care of ALL maintenance including oil changes, wiper blades etc. Did not know if this would be extended to the Lexus line.

As I stated in another thread, most Lexus Owners probably lease or own their vehicle within the warranty period and then a get a new Lexus. These folks wouldn't care what happens after that period. Yes, the warranty is not transferable, but one doesn't have to have a vehicle for 10 years to reach 100,000 miles. Toyota trucks are well known for going 200K, and 300K with very few problems. Offering a longer warranty shows confidence in one's product. The powertrain warranty (72 months/70,000 miles) on Lexus is better than most but not the longest. Would Lexus/Toyota "raise the bar"? Why not? If they have confidence in their products, they won't be paying out in the long run. If they're cutting corners to get a better return...they'll lose customers.

The 8/100 was available on my ES.
Discounted from Toyota/Lexus warranty guru Troy Dietrich, the 8/100 was $2050.
I opted for the 7/100 for $1730.
