I just had to replace the battery on my 2008 RX350 with only 26K miles. It was a dealer loaner and had about 16K miles when I purchased in 8/2008. The battery died in Sept. 2009. Thought it would last longer than that.

Much variation in life of battery
I replaced the original battery on my '04 about a year ago at around 90,000 miles. It had died once while parked a week without use so I had it tested and it was faulty. Many places that sell batteries will test for free. The cost of a new battery is about the same as 45 minutes of work at the dealer so if you are having a problem it may be cheaper to buy a new battery than to pay for diagnosis. Of course this only makes sense if the battery is somewhat old. I currently have the original battery in my 2001 Honda and I had a Toyota where I replaced the battery after about 8 years. That one didn't even have a problem, I just felt like it was living on borrowed time.

yeah slightly higher cranking amps.I`m serious though,it does start faster. And the auto tilt wheel does move faster now.I guess the old battery probably was on its way out.Friggin Diehard Gold batteries arent cheap, cost me $110.00 for it,but i`m happy.

Lesson learned from living through many Chicago winters. I'd rather replace the battery proactively than praying it makes it through another winter.

Kirkland by JCI from Costco. Solid. If you can find your fit.

I respectfully disagree. Please do not change batteries proactively. We have improved the recovery/recycle procedure, but it is better to get the most of the their lifespan.

I am with salimshah, be kind to the environment, the battery will show signs of failure way before it actually fails.
Get the max out of it. At least 5 years, then replace it. Winter is the most appropriate time to replace it, timing wise, the 5th year before winter.

You've never been stranded at the airport in a Chicago winter. While I respect the environment, I also need a battery that I can rely on. If I lived in Texas or Georgia I might be less inclined to proactively replace my battery.
