My bother is doing a lot of business in china, and he says that as soon as a someone there gets some money, they dump their chinese car and get a foreign one. They shun the japanese ones, but like american and german cars. Only the lowest rung of the afluent drive chinese cars, as they only last around 2 years before collapsing in a heap.
Interesting fact, the afluent drive the same cars as we do here, but the engines are all down-sized to around 1/2 our size. They have to pay a very stiff import tax if they get the car with a full sized engine.

Man did you read all those racist hateful comments about Chinese people on there?
I'm Chinese and I can't stand doing business with mainland Chinese people, and I hate how we are always bootlegging stuff and enforcing our stereotypes, but I think that was just hateful.

We live in North America.......
Chinese people buy foreign cars for the same reason as North Americans buy import cars......

If you think Chinese people buy import cars because Chinese build cars are so bad then just look here at home, all these people buy Mercedes is it because of reliability? How about Jags?
Being in China and worked there I can say that 99.9% reason why Chinese people buy imports is because they want the social status.

calm down people, used to be the japanese copy everything from america and trying to make it better, they copy ford, chevys , ect...
without competition you really think you can buy a car right now? if ford is the only company selling?

the truth is people are buying the car, if no one buying the BYD car, they Wound't have funds to make others. if you want to stop somthing don't support them by buying their product.

The Chinese made toothpaste that was poisoned with antifreeze (I think it was antifreez)
The Chinese made steel for building construction that was sub par and didn't meet specifications.
The Chinese made children's toys that were coated with lead based paint.
The Chinese made ... holy cow, the list goes on and on and on.
If the Chinese cloned a Toyota, it is a Toyota in appearance only. It WILL be a Yugo in quality!
