Transfer case? Why red fluid though? Transfer case takes gear oil if I am not mistaken.

Correct. Transaxle takes Toyota ATF WS, Rear Dif and transfer case 80w90 gear oil.

Can you mix Type T-IV and WS tranny fluid?

Pretty sure the 2005 RX uses Type-IV not WS.

How is the WS priced versus the T-IV?

My mistake, I was speaking of the 09. The point is transfer case is gear oil, transaxle takes ATF. I would not mix IV and WS.

X2. Absolutely not! So, based on the confirmations I've got from a few guys now a question to the OP. If you saw red/pinkish fluid leaking and the service tech at the dealership said the leak was from the transfer case, does that mean that someone put ATF into your transfer case? I am just curious...

Did they go with WS on 2007 or 2008 RXs? I know it's RX350 but not sure which year. I think WS fluid is slightly more expensive.

My 2007 RX 350 takes WS fluid for the transmission.

Back home in ND now and got a chance to really look at what the service tech listed on the repair list. States the transfer bearing retainer is leaking and replaced the transfer case. Also states 4 qts of ATF T-IV were added. All under warranty. Had a 2009 RX350 loaner, all black. Really not much difference that I noticed between my 2005 and the 2009 other than the NAV screen being much better resolution than mine and the chrome handles on the outside of the doors.

On a side note, I have the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza's which were put on the RX at 32K, I had 54K on it at the time the transfer case was replaced and also had them do the oil change and tire rotation. Service tech noted that it looked like I had fairly new tires. The mechanic listed all 4 tires at 9/32 tread depth remaining. So with 22K on the tires I have to say they are giving me very good wear and would recommend them to any RX owner. May not be for everyone but it's a good tire for those who need winter traction on snow and ice and still have good tread life.

2005 RX330 Thundercloud, Thundercloud Mist, Gray/Black interior with black birdseye maple trim, NAV, ML, HID with AFS, rain sensing wipers, headlight washers, tow package with OEM hitch, Bridgestone Dueler Alenza on 18 Thundercloud rims.

Glad to hear your RX is feeling better. And yes, the Alenzas hold up pretty well. I have 32K on mine.
