Is new 2008 RX at invoice a good deal?
Since the 2009 is already out on dealer lots, couple of dealers here in the Midwest I have talked with are willing to sell their left-over 2008 RX350 stock at invoice, typically the discounts range from about $4800 to 5100 off their stickers depending on equipment. I personally think the discount should be higher like maybe $1000 below invoice since it's a year old. Am I too greedy? What do you think is a fair price for me to pay on the 2008? Thanks.

They are discounting off sticker pretty aggressively for 09s. You should definitely be well below invoice for 08. If you can find the car you want or compromise on configuration, it's a buyer's market on 08s for sure. Good luck.

Lexus has given the dealers a 2K rebate off the invoice price on the 08 RX they also have an additional 1K of assistance for a total of 3K below invoice. That means they will still make money at 3K below invoice. I would think if you squeeze them you should get 2K below invoice if not $2500. Squeeze them hard as they are all trying to make the numbers by the end of the quarter.

On the 2009, they are discounting about $3500 off non-GPS RX AWD (sticker around $41k) and $3700 off on RX AWD w/ GPS (sticker about $45k) but unwilling to sell at invoice whereas on the '08s, they were quite willing to offer any '08s at invoice without any hesitation which tells me there's still more room to dicker around but I just don't know how far I can push it before they tell me to drop dead. I personally like to get the 2008 since it's identical to the 2009 especially if I can get it at a real bargain price.

I got these numbers from the sales manager at the dealership were I purchased my 08 RX in October. My sister is looking to purchase an 08. Lexus may not call it a rebate, but dealer assistance. Tell the dealer you want $2K below invoice on any 08 RX. I had a lot of small issues with my RX and the dealer has corrected them. So for the price it is a good deal. I wish I waited. I paid 41K for a RX AWD, Nav, Premium Pack plus, 18 inch Graphite Wheels, Ipod adapter, auto wipers, heated seats,Trailer pack, hitch, bar and ball, all weather mats, chrome plate frames, cargo net, umbrella and two hats.
State Tax was extra.

no way should you pay invoice for a 2008 RX. we bought our '08 RX AWD, no nav, last May for $38K even, MSRP $43,065 or something like that. if i am not mistaken, that is like $600 below invoice. i would definitely push for $1500 below invoice if not more for 08s. good luck

We purchased a '08 RX350 AWD about 5 weeks ago. Car comes with AWD, Nav system, Premium Plus package, 18" 7-spoke wheels, cargo mat and wheels locks. The MSRP is $45,881 and we got it for $42k OTD, which means the selling price is around $38.4k. We got the salesperson thrown in all-weather mats and cargo net. This is in San Francisco Bay Area. Given that dealers are moving '08s off the lot, you should expect something similar. Good luck on your car shopping.

If there is only 1 lexus dealer in town for 300 miles radius, trust me that I say you will be lucky if they offer close to invoice on their cars. I life in DC/VA/MD tristate area where the economy is doing ok compare to most other regions in the States (thanks to government agencies/projects, defense companies and old money politicians/family), most people here dont really bargain much when buying a car. This add to the reasons why dealers around here do not give out crazy deals on vehicles (RX in particular) that are still selling well.

simple way to know what the dealer can sell you for. go there and ask them to give you a printout of the car you are looking at. make sure the printout has the right hand column printed also, that shows how much they are paying for the car. that price should show any dealer incentives, dealer rebates, wholesale reserve, etc. the dealer manytimes will only printout the paper, with the retail price and all their "incentives" hidden, which gives them more bargaining power. if they refuse insist, since they can show it to you if you want.

I got a pretty good deal in CA also. I purchased last month a '08 RX FWD with Prem Plus, NAV, 2lvl heated seats with rain sensing wipers, 7 spoke 18" wheels, Tow prep, cargo mat, and wheels locks for $36.4K + TTL. MSRP was $44,481. Invoice according to KBB was $39,195.

You are going to make some people feel bad. They must be letting them go on cost or something.....

And to think you can start buying an 09...pretty soon! What's the difference between an 08 and an 09, anybody know?
