My car is a cosmetic beauty and came with every service record, so I feel good about the care it was given before my purchase. AWD model with 18 inch wheels and 4 year old Cooper tires of some model. It seems loudish over all but the smoothest pavement. Would a new set of good Michelins make a marked difference or are these interior road hums to be expected. Thanks for info and experiences.

Default i think that's what mine are too

but i fear they have seen their day. dealer service invoice at one point said they could not be balanced in any way that would fix a speed wobble at 70.

That sounds like a tire issue & or wear issue vs a NVH issue......Jump on Tirerack & Discount tire & read the different reviews. These vehicles are pretty quiet & well insulted vs other like similar vehicles. I've been running Falken Pro G5 CSV's on TSW wheels from Discount w/ no issues.

Default installed new Michelin Defender 18 inch tires, talk about a dramatic difference

really really nice compared to the crap tires that were on the car when I bought it. Spendy but already worth every penny.

No one else thinks 4 years is a hell of a long life for a tire? I can squeeze MAYBE 2 out of a pair, not quite the set. Just wondering if it was parked or something? If it was I know tires don't like that much.

But yes always lots of road noise. And on my other car the forums recommend Michelin for road noise. I've yet to try em.

Default My car is now fairly quiet

Tire noise gone due to the new Michelins but still different road surfaces effect cabin noise at times. Wind noise I think mostly from the big flat non aero outside rear view mirrors. My car has 149K miles on it and is pretty much solid as a rock with no disturbing rattles at this time.

The one final noise I'd like to know about is the quiet sort of whine at low speed acceleration and coasting. Had the wheel bearing checked they're ok. Wondering if this is from trans or transfer case and if yes, how to fix?

Was able to speak at a "low volume" at 80MPH.
If you can't - check door seals (wind sound) or change tires (sound from tires)

Yours could be easy... its the plastic piece in front of the gas tank the wind blows the flap against the tank, pad it with foam strip.
