Aftermarket glass on RX330- 350?
Ever have any problems with aftermarket glass on the current RX with rain sensing windshield wipers? It has been seen by "some" that the sensor falls off and will not stay on the aftermarket glass like it will with the factory glass. Thanks!

I got my glass replaced with an OEM brand (plinkington I think its called) and its working great.
Just make sure that whoever is doing the replacement sticks on the rain sensor properly.

Somewhat unrelated, but I heard the same thing about glass for the ES. My wife's car was in the dealer for over a week while they tried to correctly replace her windshield. The rain sensor was only one of a few issues, but everyone - including the glass vendor with whom the dealer outsources all their window work - strongly recommended OEM glass.

Went through this when our RX was new (less than 500 miles). Got nailed by a large rock, huge cracks in windshield, both Dealer and Insurance Company recommended replacement with OEM glass. Ins. rep told me that they had bad experiences with aftermarket, and had to have several redone, auto wipers were only one of the problems, fit and stress cracking was another.

OEM glass is stronger as it is slow annealed which is why it is more expensive than aftermarket glass. OEM glass is required to meet Federal requirements that aftermarket glass does not.

What role does my windshield play to ensure my safety in an accident?
The windshield provides a significant amount of strength to the structural support in the cabin of the vehicle. For instance, in a front end collision the windshield provides up to 45% of the structural integrity of the cabin of the vehicle and in a rollover, up to 60%.
Think about that for just a moment. How would you like for over half of the force of a collision to be absorbed by YOU because your windshield flew out in an accident? It happens more times than most of us are aware.
The windshield is an integral part of the safety restraint system in your car. It keeps the roof from crushing in on you in a rollover, it allows the airbags to deploy in the correct position to cushion passengers, and prevents you and your family from being ejected in a serious collision. It's important to your family's safety that the auto glass in your vehicle be installed properly.

QUESTIONS TO ASK:
When the need to have auto glass replaced arises, ask these questions of the shop before giving them the job.
Are you an AGRSS-Registered Company?
Do you use o.e. (original equipment) or o.e.-equivalent glass?
Do all the materials you use meet or exceed ANSI Z 26.1 and all pertinent Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards?
Does your adhesive manufacturer certify you, and who is the manufacturer of the adhesive?
What type of warranty can I expect?
How soon after my glass is replaced will I be able to use my vehicle

I have a lifelong friend who also happens to be a State Farm Agent. When I had a rock crack a windshield he told me about the difference in glass and the safety issue. State Farm had my glass replaced by an AGRSS company and they paid the whole thing, no deductible. He sent me to a couple web sites to see this info and I just passed it along.

Lexus do make good windshields, I think the 07 and up use the acoustic windshields. One the other hand, I find the windshields to be very thin or crack easily on the Toyota line. The after market windshield I had was actually better than the Toyota OEM.
