Rear Back Up Proximity Sensor
I ordered a 2008 RX350 Premium Package in October after being told that there were major changes coming. (I've had both a 2004 and 2006) In Canada we are still just offered the Base, Premium and Ultra Premium (Nav, Levinson and Rear DVD and Rear camera- all together). When is Lexus ever going to wake up and offer as they do in many parts of the USA a mid package including Nav+Rear Camera+Levison--forgetting about the rear DVD? I would have been delighted had they even offered the rear proximity sensors as Toyota does on their Sienna XLE/LTD and their new Tundra (ads say rear park proximity system as many luxury makes--is Lexus not in that luxury brand?) Has anyone installed a rear parking sensor that functions correctly and looks like it did not come from Walmart? I know Lexus in Switzerland offers both a front and a rear system or just the rear one by itself--has anyone tried that package? I'd appreciate any feedback....I am going to look at the kit that Toyota offers for their mini van.. Lexus offers a kit that puts the sensors behind the rear bumper...that work some of the time..I bought that system for the 2004 but not the 2006. Needless to say I am some upset with Lexus Canada.

Dealers tend to have packages that they order frequently and prefer to sell, just because it's easier for them. Here they call them something like "Premium Package--Luxury Value Edition with additional options" or some other BS. But if you nag them about it, they will special order with the exact options you want. You could probably get a stripped model with cloth seats, but nav/backup cam/bluetooth if you fought hard enough.

Big difference as well is the pricing. Toyota and Lexus are the only vehicles in my area that sells list pricing. Take or leave it.
The only "deal" I got when a bought my 07 350 AWD Premium Package is to choose from either the backing sound sensor or the added paint protection. I chose the latter.

I think Lexus, based on experience of the last few years, introduces a new model with a few large options that are bundled together. As time goes on, many of these packages start to come apart, allowing you to purchase the Nav, back-up camera, and RSES as separate items. Of course there are still restrictions, most for good reason. Ex. you can't have the back-up camera without the Nav (no display screen). Early adopters tend to have fewer choices. I have one of the early 330s and was unable to get AWD - a primary reason I bought my 300. The first AWD 330's imported went to the snow belt, and the nearest example to me was in Oregon. I took the Nav, ML, RSES, Ultra Premium package, etc. to assuage my pain.

I ordered the Lexus OEM accessory parking sensors for my 2005 when I bought the car from the dealer. They are installed behind the bumper cover. I've never had any problems with them, unlike the factory installed sensors on our BMW that get covered in dirt and don't work all the time.
