Will 18X8 +35mm work? Will 20x8.5 +35mm work?
I'm looking at some wheels that I would like to buy but I can't seem to find the right offset and size. Will 18X8 +35mm with a 255 width tire work? Will 20x8.5 +35mm with a 255 width tire work?
I was researching spacers a little bit. Some come with longer lugs. Are those hard to install?

The 18X8 +35 should be no problem. The 20X8.5 +35 should also work, but it will be very close to the strut. I would double check to be sure. As you probably know by now, I'm running a 20X8.5 +20 and I'm pretty close to the rear strut already. +15mm is not a lot, but when things are really close it can make all the difference. Personally, if you are planning on running a 8.5" I might consider a +25 to +30 range.
PS. The problem with the back spacing (Strut clearance) isn't so much with the rim itself. It is when you mount the tires and how much side wall bulge you have. You can go much more aggressive if you run low profile tires, but with the sizes for SUV's that we are talking about there is a lot more side wall bulge even if you think 50/55 series is low. With my 255/50/20 tires that has rim protection, it bulges out from the rim about 3/8" and comes about 1/2" to the strut, and about a 1/4" to the rear plastic wheel well liner.
