Tow hitch wiring
Hi, I've searched the forum about tow hitches but I'm stil a bit confused. I have a 2004 RX330 with the tow package. I wanted to get the OEM tow hitch but Lexus of Las Vegas wants $307 for it plus $250 for the installation! I decided to get a "Hidden Hitch" brand. I asked their customer service and they said that I would have to buy a "Modulite adaptor" and hardwire it.
To my understanding, the OEM hitch was as simple as plugging it to the plug on the left panel near the rear wheel. Would I really have to purchase a "Modulite adaptor" with the Hidden Hitch? What if I just purchased a wiring harness from Toyota or Lexus? I read in a previous post that the part no. for it is: 08942-48870-BB. Would that work and just be a plug and play thing like the OEM hitch?

You can get all TSIBs, shop manuals as well as other references from the Lexus/Toyota Technical Information System. Wiring diagrams, as well as towing connections to STD RX are there...
http://www.techinfo.lexus.com/
It is not free though, subscription access to TIS is offered in daily, monthly, or yearly intervals following the rate schedule noted below.
Daily $10.00 US
Monthly $50.00 US
Yearly $350.00 US
So for $10.00 you can spend a few hours downloading all the TSIBs for you car. If you are really ambitious you can spend a whole day downloading your shop manual in small chunks. The information you get is worth far more than $10.00 and will pay itself off rather quickly.
