3rd party Warranty
Yesterday I received a third party Warranty Notification Info card through postal mail; called them today. They are offering extended Warranty (100K or till year 2012) for $1900. They said it covers exactly the same as Lexus Extended Warranty. What's your opinion? Thanks!!

waste of money in my opinion. My dad had 10 year warranty from this company which was supposedly highly rated. However, when time for a repair came around, they refused to cover the repair because it was associated to a tsb. I would avoid such companies. I think you can get the lexus warranty for around the same price bumper to bumper.
Our van just got totalled and when we called the company to get our prorated refund, it turns out they went chapter 11, so no refund...

Third Party "Extended Warranties" (they are really just service contracts) are far worse than those offered by Lexus. Why trust some company you never heard of because they sent you an ad (he calls it a "notification") in the mail.
I doubt that the plan offered is the same as the Lexus Extended Warranty; I have looked at both the Lexus plans and the major third party plans, and there are loopholes in most of them you could drive a truck through.
Several of these companies, one of them a major player, have gone out of business, leaving their customers with no recourse. Paying with a credit card does usually not protect you if the company files bankruptcy or otherwise disappears.
Anyway, the whole idea, especially for a car with the Lexus reputation for reliability, does not withstand analysis. These plans are discussed in many posts in the various Lexus forums, and the consensus always seems to be, as noted above: "Warranty yourself... Put the $1900 in the bank and draw on it when you need."
I can't recall the last time I was pleased that I bought something from an unknown company that sent me a flyer in the mail.

American Mercury
Thanks everyone for your reply. The Third Party Warranty is from "American Mercury". Anyone heard about them; they said they'll match Lexus Dealership Warranty price.

I am no expert on Bankruptsies, but there is an order in which the creditors are paid. A used to be CL sponsor [name withheld] who was a selling above mentioned warranty, went out of bussiness and a close friend of mine did get part of the premium back through his credit card company.
I am not encouraging ppl to pay by credit card to dubious businesses, but reminding folks who may have lost money that they may have a recourse.
