Default 2006 RX330 upgrades

My loaner is a 2006 model, and it feels soooo much more "Lexus-like" than my 2004.

For instance, the engine feels stronger and smoother despite having a lesser HP rating than my 2004. The tranny shifts seamlessly. The interior cabin is much quieter (less engine noise). The ride feels like you're flying through the air (I thought my 17" wheels would be smoother than the 18's, but they're not)

Were the tranny and suspension upgraded or tweaked for '06?

TIA!

Default The 2004 and 2006 engines are the same. Toyota was...

...fudging on the hp figures and got caught by the new S.A.E. rating requirements, so hp ratings for the same Toyota engine went down.

Interestingly, the U.S. manufacturers did not have this problem as nearly all their hp ratings were accurate or conservative (less than the new system allows).

Hurray for honesty in Detroit and shame on Toyota for fudging.

I don't know why is it a fudging, as there's a different standard in the past. Just because the calculation outcome is different doesn't necessarily mean they are cheating.

And the last time I check, Detroit is still in big trouble. Making a product and "honestly" disclosing the spec just won't make the cut if the product doesn't last long, not to mention about not meeting the customers' need. Maybe you should just donate your mentioned terrible RX and get a GM or Ford product to support the local economy, and those evil UAW.

Addressing the other points, it probably is the fact that Lexus is working out the bugs from the RX330. We bought our 04s knowing there probably would be 1sr run issues and that clearly was the case. I'm not surprised at all to hear the 06 feels like a much better built car. When we talk about wind noise and engine noise in our 04s other newer RX330 owners look at us like we are crazy. When we talk about rattles they think we are not driving a Lexus. I'm just glad that Lexus has been working out the bugs over the last 2 years and that gives me great hope that the RX350 could very well be an SUV to consider and put back on the list
